PROJECT 1 -- "ZEN-DOODLE" LEAF

In this project, we explored the possibilities of various kind of lines (thick, thin, consistent/broken, etc.) and how to develop patterns. We talked about the importance of variety to keep a subject interesting.

Project 2 -- Watercolor leaf

In our second session, we did another pen and ink "warm up exercise" developing lines into patterns which incorporate shapes, value, and color. We also painted a watercolor leaf based on an inspiration  photo from a leaf from the parking lot!

Project 2 -- Watercolor leaf

In a quick demo of wet-into-wet painting, we laid in color starting with our lightest value color (yellow) and then, while the paper was still wet, dropped in reds and greens and purples to get the melting and mottling of colors inspired by the real leaf. We finished with splatter.
