Description:

Have you ever wondered about those interesting square or circular signature seals on watercolor and other paintings? If the artwork is traditional Chinese, the mark will be stamped with red ink.

In the contemporary art world, artists are adding their personalized and unique "chops," as these maker's marks are known, to the bottom of their paintings, adding not only an individual additional signature to their work but also a cool design element that enhances the art. They go beyond traditional red ink and simple lines to incorporate color and even small symbols or images.

Come to this workshop and brainstorm the ways you might design your chop. Will you use your initials? Will you incorporate an image? How about typography and sizing?

In this workshop, you will get personal consultation to think through the ways you might express yourself through your chop. Then you will design it and transfer it to a medium that you can print from. This workshop will give you the techniques and tools to develop other design elements you may wish to stamp onto your paintings.

A modest supplies list is involved.
